Bukit Lawang Info

Bukit Lawang : The Last Habitat of Orang Utan

Indonesia is one of the biggest countries in the world and you must spend some times to explore the beauty of it. North Sumatera can be one of your destinations since there are many gorgeous landmarks you can visit such as Bukit Lawang. It is a small village located about 90 km from Medan, the capital city of North Sumatera. This place is claimed as the last place in the world where you can see Orang Utan in the jungle and they live in peace. The purpose of this place is to protect Orang Utan after being released from the captivity. The humans in rehabilitation need to teach them how to live and survive in the wildlife. After being quarantined for several periods, the will go back to its habitant.

Bukit Lawang is also well known as the main gate to enjoy the beauty of Leuser Mountain. It can be reached from Medan using land transportation. If you use the private car, it takes about 2,5 hours or 80 km. But you don’t need to worry since the road had already asphalted. There are many facilities you can find there such as cottages with low prices, restaurants, camping ground, information center, viewing center and many more. But if you want to save more money, just join Bukit Lawang Jungle Tour where you can explore the beauty of orang utans’ wildlife but remember this if itinerary is indicative only, variations are possible due to weather (in the rainy season we may ask you to make an earlier start, but it is not essential as we can continue even in heavy rain) and the characteristics of the group (e.g we can make the trek longer or shorter according to your physical condition).
